UV-C technology

Ensuring biological safety is nowadays one of the basic things that will be required in running a business, as well as in a wide range of households. One of the weapons to fight biological hazards, apart from the application of alcohol-based preparations, is the application of UV-C rays.

The Chief Sanitary Inspectorate (GIS) lists UV-C radiation as one of the ways to fight the coronavirus – ultraviolet light destroys its thin lipid layer. The action of UV-C rays is currently used in special sterilizers for decontaminating smart phones, laptops, tools in beauty salons and for medical equipment. Ultraviolet is used for disinfecting cars, buses, and food products, even milk.

Scientific research has clearly proven the effectiveness of UV-C rays in combating mould, fungi, viruses such as SARS, H1N1, H5N1, coronaviruses causing COVID-19 disease and dangerous, pathogenic bacteria. This method of air disinfection is especially recommended by the WHO, because it is safe and effective.

The first research on the bactericidal properties of UV-C rays was carried out over a hundred years ago and in 1903 the Nobel Prize was awarded for research on the effects of UV rays on skin tuberculosis bacteria. What’s more, UV-C rays are successfully used to disinfect drinking water. UV-C air purification is typically used in hospitals in operating theatres, treatment rooms, and military facilities.

UV-C lamps have been known for years, but have not undergone many modifications to this day. Currently they are produced as discharge lamps in mercury vapour. UV-C is not selective; it destroys virtually all viruses, bacteria, mites and even bed bugs, ants and cockroaches. Thanks to the use of UV-C lamps, we are able to limit the transmission of infection, which will increase the safety of employees, customers and everyone who cares about the biological safety of the premises.

The accompanying product of UV-C radiation is the well-known O3 (ozone) which occurs during the UV-C rays exposure. The ozonation itself kills bacteria, fungi and moulds, but it is not virucidal.
